Watch our third Parlour LAB here!
Michaela Prescott and Heather Shearer discuss their research in Indonesia, Fiji and the Gold Coast with Macarena de la Vega de León and myself. Michaela talks about Revitalising Informal Settlements & their Environments (RISE), and Heather discusses the Gold Coast Futures project. They then join Macarena and Kali in a discussion about their work and action research. How does action research inform both projects? What unexpected things have come up? What can practitioners learn from interdisciplinary collaboration?
Key takeaways from the session included:
ideas and systems need to be adapted and contextualised to the daily practices of local communities through capacity-building, education and cultural awareness of how day-to-day practices might affect implementation;
interdisciplinary communication is incredibly challenging but also incredibly important, finding ways to improve and build on communication critical and not to be overlooked;
respect other knowledges from different disciplines, communities and from other countries - you might think you know better but there is always something you can learn!
