Youth Design Workshops

Kali runs workshop programs for young people in schools and communities to learn about sustainable design, heritage, place, and neighbourhood. Young people engage in a series of creative activities to learn about, build awareness of, and take action for sustainable living and are given opportunities to learn directly from practitioners.

Workshops give students the space to explore different techniques that adapt to their own interests, gently challenge their comfort zones, and embrace learning from design thinking.

Kali offers workshops for late primary to senior students.

Workshops can be run in collaboration with local organisations or Councils to create strategic partnerships, introduce young people to the community, and help organisations understand life and space from the perspective of young people, a group that is often left out of city planning yet have insights and perspectives that adults, habituated to their environment, too often don’t see.

Testimonials…

“I thought everything was really well organised and run… The students were very proud of the photos they produced and it was good to see so many responses from the same small area.” - YEAR 7 TEACHER

“The idea of reflecting on ‘what makes a place’ certainly fits with the Year 7 curriculum. Further, it was beneficial for students to become familiar with locations close to their school.” - YEAR 7 TEACHER

“I thought that the project was meaningful, the kids engaged and enjoyed all the workshops and it was nice to do something different with them outside of the classroom.” - YEAR 7 TEACHER

“We use these methods as a standard in our curriculum now, it’s great to have discussions about geography and design outside the classroom.” - COMMUNITY CENTRE MANAGER
