Last week I ran a series of workshops for Year 7 students of Foxwell State Secondary College to introduce them to ideas about public space, water and pollution.
During our workshop we discussed the physical aspects of water in public spaces (sources of polluted runoff, impermeable and permeable materials) and the intangible aspects of public spaces (why they are important for people).
We did a drawing activity to remember our favourite public nature space and then used this as inspiration to design a new public space for the school that would help mitigate water pollution flowing into Oaky Creek.
A design for a beautiful water filtering fountain in a public space with playgrounds and rainwater gardens
It was a great morning where many fabulous ideas were shared! I only wish I could spend more time with the students.
